Bench & Bar
Joan Tarpley understands the human dynamics of disputes and the attorney dynamics of litigation. As a Judge in Dallas County Court of Law No.2 and as the Judge in the 191st State District Court, she presided over all subject matter issues that you would expect in a civil court of unlimited jurisdiction, including multiparty, complex litigation.

While practicing law, she litigated federal wage and hour cases, employment cases, and engaged in the general practice of civil law with a focus on real property issues. Her Experienced in real estate transactional and litigation practice, both commercial and residential, is extensive. She held both commercial and residential specialization designations in Texas before moving away from the state to join the faculty of a law school.

Temperament
With over 30 years in the legal field, and thanks to her judicial Experienced, you may expect Judge Tarpley’s temperament to be well suited for helping counsel and parties address factual issues. You may also expect her neutrality to be a big plus in helping all concerned to stay focused on the end goal of resolution.

Scholar
As a law professor, while working actively in dispute resolution since 1995, she balanced the real world practice of dispute resolution with a scholarly approach in legal theory. Her writing on ADR has been published in law review articles.
